Yesterday, some big news for the Muppet fan community was released by Copper Pot Pictures, who revealed that their film I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story has been picked up for theatrical and on-demand distribution by Tribeca Film! This will allow I Am Big Bird to be seen everywhere, not just in film festivals and special screenings. Although there is no official release date for the film yet, both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter have noted that the release will be in the first quarter of 2015. The film will be released simultaneously in select theaters and video on demand services.
I Am Big Bird is directed and produced by Dave LaMattina and Chad Walker and premiered earlier this year at the Hot Docs film festival. The film has received almost universal praise from Muppet fans and film critics alike. This Tribeca Film deal will allow everyone to see I Am Big Bird, which should be hugely celebrated by Muppet fans.
