I AM BIG BIRD Gets Release Date

After over a year of running exclusively on the festival circuit, the Copper Pot Pictures documentary I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story will finally see a wide release thanks to a distribution deal with Tribeca Films.

I Am Big Bird will be available on VOD/iTunes starting May 5th. It will be released in select New York theaters on May 8th and expand to other cities throughout May!

The news comes from the producers of I Am Big Bird via their Kickstarter. I for one am ridiculously excited to get the chance to finally see this film. I haven’t been able to attend any of the festival screenings so I still haven’t gotten the chance to see the film people are praising left and right. Bring on May, please!

  1. Wow, Ryan! I figured you would’ve been first online to see this film. It’s a beautiful movie. My husband and I were lucky to attend the screening in NYC this past November, the only screening so far that Big Bird himself made an appearance at! We also had Bob McGrath join us in the audience too and I was thrilled to finally get a photo with Oscar. I am not ashamed to admit I cried through about 75% of the film. It was brilliant. The footage, the stories, the folks they interviewed, all amazing!

  2. Greetings fellow Muppets fan. I got to see this film for free at the Salem Film Festival since I was a volunteer. It was awesome and it brought back many memories, not to mention blowing my mind with a lot of stuff I didn’t know. For example, I didn’t know that Caroll had once been asked to board a space shuttle to help bolster interest in the space program and the only reason he wasn’t on the Challenger was because the Big Bird puppet wouldn’t have fit in the shuttle.
