News Update: February 26, 2015

We apologize for the lack of News Updates in recent weeks. Real-life has become busier and busier recently, so we’ve neglected to report the news on the site. But we’re back and more focused again, so look for more News Updates on a regular basis.

As with every month, Netflix will be removing some of its content from Instant Streaming services. In March, that will unfortunately include The Muppet Movie and Muppet Treasure Island on March 5th and March 15th, respectively. At least you have some time to watch it on Netflix Instant before the films disappear from streaming. But, if you’re like most Muppet fans, you already own these two films on numerous home video formats so you have little reason to worry.

The annual ToyFair was held in New York last weekend and, as always, our good friends over at ToughPigs and Muppet Stuff have an incredible amount of coverage from the fair. This includes the Sesame Street Pop! Vinyl figures from Funko (above) and a lot more. The most exciting news is that Diamond Collectibles is releasing two new lines of Muppet figures, including Muppet MiniMates and two-packs of highly detailed Muppet action figures, starting with Kermit and Fozzie. This is huge, exciting, awesome news! Find out more at ToughPigs and Muppet Stuff.

This week, Sesame Street brilliantly and perfectly parodied House of Cards with “House of Bricks,” starring the Big Bad Wolf and Three Little Pigs. It’s hysterical and incredibly well done–check it out above!

As part of his epic New York City art museum tour, Cookie Monster teamed up with Mashable to showcase his wonderfully funny food-related shower thoughts. You’ve gotta see this.

This month, ToughPigs hosted the first ever Snuffy Awards and it was a roaring success. Muppet fans voted on Muppet-themed awards and then ToughPigs’ Joe Hennes and Ryan Roe hosted the ceremony online. Our own Ryan Dosier was beyond honored to be featured as a presenter in the ceremony, alongside the likes of Kirk Thatcher, Joey Mazzarino, Matt Vogel, and so many more. It’s an excellent tribute to ToughPigs and to Muppet fans, and you absolutely have to watch it.

Also last week Big Bird and First Lady Michelle Obama joined comedian Billy Eichner for a special edition of his fantastic show Billy on the Street. In the video, Big Bird plays along with Billy’s many games and supports the First Lady as she plays. It’s hysterical and goofy and delightful.

Finally, in best thing you’ll ever see news, Sesame Street created a brilliant, brilliant parody of 2015 Best Picture winner Birdman“Big Birdman,” starring Caroll Spinney and Big Bird. It’s hysterical and so marvelously witty and awesome. I don’t have enough great words for it. Watch it.
