This week, executive producer of the new Muppet pilot Bob Kushell Instagrammed an image which revealed the current title card for the series.
Not only did the image reveal the title card, it also revealed the title (seems fitting).
The title of the new Muppet series is…
Yep. the muppets. Lowercase. With a full stop.
This has caused a bit of a stir in the world of Muppet fandom. Many people are saying that this show will get confused with the 2011 film The Muppets (the one with Jason Segel), as well as confuse it with the name of the group of characters. Also, the title is a little boring, as is the title card. I have no idea if this is a placeholder, but I certainly hope it makes sense in relation to the series.
It begs the question though – what COULD they call this new series? Here are just a few ideas:
- The New Muppet Show
- Another Muppet Show
- Not The Muppet Show
- The Muppet Show… Again (I actually kind of like this one)
- Muppets, The
- The Muppets Present: the muppets.
- The Great Muppet Series
- The Last Man On Earth
The last one might be taken already.
At the moment this is only a pilot, and the point of a pilot is to see what does and doesn’t work. This doesn’t mean that the title is definately ‘the muppets.‘, nor does it mean this title card is definite. Did you know the original title for FRIENDS was ‘Friends Like These’? That was a bit on the nose too, and that show got 10 seasons.
So I think what we can take away from this is that the new Muppets series is going to get 10 seasons.
