HUGE news this week around Muppet circles everywhere, as Disney’s Muppets dominated the internet once again. We’ve compiled all the news you might have missed this week, and roundup of the Muppets on Youtube.
Muppet fans rejoice! We’re thrilled to report to you that ABC’s new Muppet show (currently titled) The Muppets has officially been picked up by ABC for a full season airing this fall! The news was reported by Entertainment Weekly, Variety as well as other major news sources. The series is set to helmed by The Office’s Randall Einhorn, and co-written by The Big Bang Theory‘s Bill Prady and Bob Kushell, and Muppet performer Bill Barretta.
UPDATE: We’re still waiting for a full press release from Disney themselves, but the announcement was made official by The Muppets social media accounts earlier this morning with amazing brand new photos from the pilot, which you can view in all their glory below.
Look at those amazing photos! I demand to know what is going on in these amazing shots! There’s just so much awesomeness going on in these photos. By the looks of the photos, it seems that Miss Piggy wasn’t invited to the board meeting, and is stuck outside the closed set. That can’t end well for anyone.
At a first glance at the first photo, to the right of Sam Eagle looks like Miss Piggy, but upon closer analysis, I’ve come to think it looks a bit more like Spamela Hamderson from the side rather than Piggy. It’s really great to see these obscure characters return once again. And hey, Pops is there too with Wayne and Wanda!
While we wait for an official synopsis from Disney, here’s the current info we know from Entertainment Weekly:
The Muppets will officially return to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show that, for the first time ever, will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires—a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages. The recent pilot presentation, we’re told, received a standing ovation when it screened for ABC executives a couple weeks ago. Bill Prady and Bob Kushell are co-writers and executive producers alongside Randall Einhorn and Bill Barretta.
We can’t possibly think of anything more exciting to announce to you right now, and we thrilled to finally welcome the Muppets back to television! ABC announces their full lineup of television shows this Tuesday, so more information will likely trickle in then.
This week saw the release of the much-anticipated documentary I Am Big Bird: The Carroll Spinney Story which is now available for purchase online. If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to check it out. It’s a fantastic must-see for any Muppet fan. You can now rent or purchase the film on iTunes or Google Play.
