Muppet News Update: January 15th 2016

Furchester

In good news for fans of English Muppets, the Sesame Street ‘spin off’ series The Furchester Hotel has been renewed for a second season of 50 episodes!  Elmo and Cookie (along with Ryan Dillon and David Rudman) will return, alongside Funella (performed by legendary Muppeteer Louise Gold), Pheobe (performed by the delightful Sarah Burgess) and Furgus (performed by our good pal Andrew James Spoooner).  Also making cameo appearances in season 2 will be Big Bird and The Count.  We can’t wait to get that theme song stuck in our heads again!

The amazing design team on the ABC series The Muppets have won an Art Director’s Guild Award, beating out shows such as Last Man On Earth and Veep.  Our pals at ToughPigs have a full rundown of the team that won this great award, including an amateur video of the acceptance speech.  Congratulations!  Does this mean we can say ‘Watch the award winning series The Muppets Tuesdays at 8:30/7:30c on ABC!’?

nickelodeon

Speaking of awards, The Muppets has been nominated for a Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Award for ‘Favorite Family TV Show’.  So, take that, One Million Moms!  Good luck, Disney property in a rival network’s awards!

Last week the Superbowl aired around the world, and our pal Big Bird got in on the action. Watch above as Big Bird (as well as a slew of other celebrities) talk about their favorite Superbowl memories.  Interestingly, my favorite Superbowl memory is Big Bird talking about his favorite Superbowl memory.

Elmo appeared in a recent digital short by the cast of the Broadway sensation Hamilton, promoting the shows #Ham4Ham lottery (whatever that is).  Can we just say how much we’re loving Ryan Dillon’s Elmo?  He’s nailing it.

MuppetsActionFigures

The good people at Diamond Select have released images of the second wave of Muppet figures, which will be available soon.  Bunsen and Beaker will be packaged together, as will Statler and Waldorf (and their box), and Animal with his drum kit.  They’re gorgeous figures, some some of the design work coming from The Muppet Mindset’s very own Jamie Caroll!  We can’t wait to see them in the flesh.

Finally, in other toy news, the good people at Funko have released these images of the upcoming series of Dark Crystal Pop! figures.  No idea yet on the release date, and no idea if the Skesis will be just as creepy in small toy form.
