A Year In Review: Part 2

This year has seen a lot happen in the world.  We’re taking a break to look back at 2016 in the world of The Muppets, Sesame Street, Henson and The Muppet Mindset.  You can read Part 1 here!

July 7th – Dave Goelz To Be Honored
The longtime Muppet performer Dave Goelz was announced as the honoree of the new annual Puppets for Puppetry gala event, hosted by the Center for Puppetry Arts.

July 10th-15th – Fan Week!
We spent a week celebrating YOU, the Muppet fans!  We had Fan Art, Fan Videos and Fan Covers, and much more!  Look out when it returns in 2017!

July 18th – PizzeRizzo Is Coming To DisneyWorld
After some speculative rumors, it was officially announced that PizzeRizzo, a new Italian restaurant, would be coming to Walt Disney World!

July 18th – The Muppet Mindset gets a new look!
After over 6 years, we updated our look, ditching the red and going with a nice white design.  This new design has allowed for multiple posts per day, which has been a God send considering the amount of news that has come out in the past 6 months.

July 19th – 54 Below Celebrates The Muppets
A group of great singers and performers got together to sing songs by The Muppets and Sesame Street, including Stephanie D’Abruzzo, Rick Lyon, and Mara Wilson.

July 26th – The Electric Mayhem Live Show Date
The live show for The Electric Mayhem was announced as Sunday, August 7th.  Spoiler alert:  It rocked.

July 28th – Sesame Street Loses Bob, Gordon & Luis
After we announced the news originally reported by The MuppetCast, we assisted in creating an international media firestorm as it was announced that Sesame Street had let long running cast members Bob McGrath, Roscoe Orman and Emilio Delgado go.  It was reported by major news networks around the world.  Our daily views went up by over 200,000.  It was a weird moment in our lives.

July 29th – Saying Thanks to Bob, Emilio & Roscoe
We said thanks for the memories to the three cast members, and remembered everything they had done for the show.  Emilio emailed to say that he and Roscoe had read the article and were touched.

July 29th – The Muppets Are Getting A Brand New Attraction
In their quest to take over Walt Disney World, it was announced that The Muppets were getting their own attraction there, entitled Great Moments In American History!

August 3rd – Sesame Workshop Releases a Statement on Recent Cast Changes
Sesame Workshop CEO Jeff Dunn released a statement claiming that they were in talks with Bob McGrath, Emilio Delgado and Roscoe Orman to resume their roles on Sesame Street.  Emilio emailed to thank us for getting his job back!

August 8th – The Electric Mayhem Rocked Outside Lands
As promised, The Electric Mayhem performed live at Outside Lands in San Francisco, doing an incredible half hour set that was live streamed around the world.  We reviewed the performance.

August 15th – The Videos We Missed Last Week
Due to the flu, we didn’t post for a week, so we caught up with a bunch of videos we had missed out on reporting.  Floyd and Animal were interviewed at Outside Lands, Gonzo starred in an ad with Seth Rogen for WE Day, and Cookie Monster parodied Pokemon Go!

August 26th – Conan’s Fan Corrections: Sam the Eagle
Being called out after falsely claiming that Sam the Eagle had appeared on Sesame Street, Conan O’Brien showed a ‘real’ video proving that it was in fact the case.

August 26th – The Muppet Mindset Turns 7!
We turned 7, so Ryan Dosier returned for a moment, and Jarrod Fairclough thanked everyone who’s helped him run the place.

September 5th – Muppets Adult Coloring Book
An adult coloring book featuring The Muppets was announced, and will be available in May 2017.

September 7th – IBM’s Watson Finds Sesame Street
IBM’s super computer Watson appeared in an ad about learning with the cast of Sesame Street.

September 15th – Cookie Monster Sesamoji’s!
With the release of ios10 for Apple, Cookie Monster emoji’s were made available to send to all your friends!

September 19th-22nd – 40 Favorite Muppet Show Moments
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Muppet Show, we were joined over four parts by performers, writers and fans alike who gave us their favorite Muppet Show moments.  With contributors like Dave Goelz, Louise Gold and Peter Linz, it has become a crown jewel in The Muppet Mindset’s achievements.

September 24th – Jim Henson Stop Motion Tribute
On what would have been Jim Henson’s 80th birthday, we shared a stop motion film by some amazing film-makers that celebrated his life.  Fun fact:  This is one of our most viewed posts of all time.

October 3rd – Watch ‘The Muppets Present…  Great Moments In American History’
The new live Muppet attraction opened at Walt Disney World to tremendous acclaim, and we shared video of two of the first ever performances.

October 4th – Muppet Mobile Labs Returns!
After years away, and without any notice, Bunsen and Beaker’s Muppet Mobile Labs returned to Walt Disney World.

October 4th – Muppet Tsum Tsum Now Available
Muppet versions of Disney’s Tsum Tsum were released.  Reactions were mixed.

October 11th – Fraggle Rock Returns to HBO
HBO announced plans to start airing digitally remastered episodes of the 80’s favorite.  There was some confusion as a few news sources believed it meant brand new episodes.

October 11th – ‘Mucking Fuppets’ – The Land of Gorch
On the 41st anniversary of Saturday Night Live, we recalled the tumultous first season sketches ‘The Land of Gorch’, starring early Muppets, and hated by many.

October 13th – Interview with Muppet Performer Andrew Spooner
After 18 months of organizing, we spoke to Andrew Spooner (Furgus on The Furchester Hotel) about his career with The Muppets, Brian Henson, and Francis Ford Coppola!

October 18th – Muppet Babies to Return?
ToughPigs reported exclusive information that Disney Junior were in preproduction on a new Muppet Babies series.  Disney officially announced the news a few days later.

October 19th – Sesame Street: Season 47 Clips
We got our first look at Season 47 of Sesame Street, with new Letter and Number of the Day segments, Zachary Levi, and Jennifer Barnhardt’s Zoe!

October 19th – Street Gang Launches Indiegogo Campaign
The team behind the new documentary ‘Street Gang’ launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise the funds to make the film.  They offered some incredible perks and raised over $100,000!

October 25th – Muppet Fan Slang
Our pal Josh had some ideas for some possible new Muppet Slang terms, like a ‘Biff and Sully project’ or ‘Instant Wembley Hair’

October 31st – Muppet Mindset’s Craft Corner: Jack-O-Lantern
We did our own spin on a craft show, and went slowly insane as we made a Kermit Jack-O-Lantern for Halloween.  Fun fact: Behind the scenes Jarrod was actually becoming angry and considered scrapping the whole bit after he cut himself for the 15th time…

November 14th – Once Upon A Sesame Street Christmas!
Sesame Street announced a new Christmas special to air after Thanksgiving.

November 15th – Dr. Livingstone, I Presume?
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Space Jam, we remembered a few of the times that The Muppets and The Looney Tunes intersected.

November 16th – SesaMannequin Challenge
The cast and crew of Sesame Street took part in the newest internet craze, The Mannequin Challenge, and blew everyone else out of the water!

November 17th – Below the Frame – Episode 1
Matt Vogel and the Muppet performers of Sesame Street aired the first episode of a new webseries about the behind the scenes of the show.  Featuring musical numbers and guest appearances by Muppets, the show was a great success, and you can see Episode 2 here.

November 18th – The Muppets Audition for Macys
In preparation of their upcoming Macy’s Parade appearance, some of The Muppets gave their regards to Broadway!

November 19th – PizzeRizzo Open for Business
PizzeRizzo opened at Walt Disney World to great reviews.  Inside The Magic took some great video of the entire restaurant.

November 23rd – Celebrating 5 Years Since ‘The Muppets’
To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the 2011 film The Muppets, Jarrod Fairclough and ToughPigs’ Joe Hennes teamed up to review an old draft of the script, which featured some huge differences, new characters, and a divisive plot twist.

November 28th – Hey, A Parade!
The Muppets opened the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in spectacular style.

November 28th – Review: Once Upon A Sesame Street Christmas
We reviewed the new Sesame Street Christmas special, laughing at the C is for Cookie bit and commending the usage of Mr Johnson as the special’s antagonist.

December 1st – Piggy vs Mamet
Miss Piggy starred in a new video with actress Zosia Mamet, and now we want a buddy cop film starring the two.

December 5th – The Muppet Christmas Commentary
Jarrod sat down with his pal Matt to watch The Muppet Christmas Carol, and discovered it might just be a horror film.  You can read Part 2 here.

December 9th – Pigs In Space – Alien: Look Who’s Coming To Dinner
Over a year after being announced, we finally got a brand new episode of Pigs In Space, with a cameo by Pepe and Link throwing around the term ‘hussy’.

December 11th – A Very Cookie Christmas
Cookie Monster starred in two new videos making up new lyrics to old Christmas classics.

December 13th – Strange Love for Strangepork
Why doesn’t Julius Strangepork get the love he deserves?  We ponder that very question.

December 16th – Pigs In Space – The Gravity of the Situation
First mate Piggy stars in this parody of Gravity, with puppets and frogs.

December 20th – Twas The Night Before Cookie
Cookie Monster battled his primitive urges while reciting Twas The Night Before Christmas.  He failed.

December 22nd – Appreciating: Elmo Saves Christmas
We took time to appreciate the lesser-beloved Elmo Saves Christmas, and asked Sesame Workshop for a Moo-Bunny.  We’re yet to get the Moo-Bunny.
