News Update – September 19th 2015

‘The Muppets’ premieres this Tuesday, September 22nd at 8/7c on ABC.  Promo’s have seen so constant and consistent that we here at The Muppet Mindset have given up even remotely trying to keep up.  Thankfully our pals over on ToughPigs have fought the good fight, and you can find them all over on their site.  They include many stars from ABC’s shows, including ScandalBlackish, and The Middle.  We have been fortunate enough to see the first two episodes of the series, and we can confirm that the show is just as good as the promo’s have been promising.  We’ll be posting our review of the first episode on Wednesday 23rd.

Beaker

Beaker spent the night playing solitaire with a deck of 51 in the Muppets newest video, ‘Flowers on the Wall’.  The video is a lot of fun, and they’ve picked an extremely catchy song to cover.  You can take a look at it here.

Joey Murray What

Joey Mazzarino has left Sesame Street after 26 years.  Joey served as Head Writer from Season 40-46, and performed Murray, Stinky and loads of Anything-Muppets in his time. You can read a little more about his departure here.  A quick thank you to everyone who shared this with Joey, and thanks to Joey for reaching out and being so sweet.  He’s promised that he has some great things planned, and we can’t wait to see what he does next.

Kermit Joel

Kermit and Piggy star in a video for… The Emmys?  Audi?  I’m not really sure.  But it’s a lot of fun.  The video, directed by our pal Kirk Thatcher, is set at a hilarious lunch in which Piggy berates Julie Bowen, and Joel McHale does his best not to offend Kermit.  You can watch it here.

Miss Piggy has appeared on Good Morning America this week to open up about her recent split with Kermit.  You can watch the full video below.  Is she telling the whole truth about her break up with the frog?  You’ll have to watch Tuesday to find out!

268ac-jimandoldkermitFinally, PBS aired an amazing documentary this week on Jim Henson.  As a part of their ‘In Their Own Words’ series, PBS interviewed a whole throng of people who knew and worked with Jim, as well as several people who were influenced by him.  Frank Oz tells great stories about their friendship, Dave Goelz and Frank Brill discuss their working relationships.  The Henson kids talk about their home lives with their father, and we see a lot of old and rare videos of our hero.  You can watch the video in full on the PBS site (hint – use a VPN if you are in another country, like I did) or order it on iTunes.
